Recycled Sweaters + A little handiwork = A completly new garment!

I've had to complete two "recycled" garment projects so far in college and I have to say that they have required some of the most work and imagination yet. Yes the idea is simple, take some already made garments and create something new with them. But when you get into the actual project several factors become huge issues like amount of fabric, seam placement and in this case shrinking fabric. I decided to use three old sweaters I purchased at Goodwill to create a new vest. I began with the intention of making a large slouchy vest but as I began sewing the knit sweaters began to ravel and shrink and my end product became a little smaller than intended. Lesson learned, you must baste stitch large knits when reusing them! Overall I was thrilled with the end product, I hope you like it!

Sorry I don't have any pictures of me wearing the vest or the back,
but that just means more to come!!
