Hallway Fashion Show

Nervous me walking the runway

Well I know a hallway fashion show does not sound very exclusive or high fashion, but when your in college sometimes a hallway is the only venue you can get! This fashion show was for a draping class I had last year and I can say that for however frustrating it was spending hours swearing at my sewing machine it was nice to have a creative class mixed in with all my research classes in grad school. For all of you who might not know what draping is, it's when you don't make a pattern but instead place the fabric directly on the dress form and mold it to the desired shape and then you use that as a basis for your design. I can say that I definitely prefer making a pattern because it is more structured but draping is kind of fun since it's more abstract. I thankfully had a great model to help me out (my good friend Sunidhi, who is super tiny and fit into a dress that was sooooo small it wouldn't even fit a size 2 dress form) and Erica modeled for another designer. The brown and white dress was "recycled" from thrifted jeans and a tweed jacket and the teal and black dress was silk and polyester i think....the  teal ruffles were for sure silk since I will always remember the  CA$H I had to pay for that!

Sunidhi looking sassy and strutting her stuff

Sunidhi and I after the show, feeling relieved it
was over!

And since I couldn't find a pic of Erica in the
Hallway Fashion Show here's one of her in the
THREADS Show (more on that later!)

Hello out there!!

Erica and I enjoying some time out on the town

Well it has finally happened, I've started a blog. I've been talking and dreaming of this for about a year and I have finally gotten around to actually doing it! It seems like everyday I have an idea where I say "That would be an awesome blog post!" and then I totally forget it or I add it to the scraps of paper in the bottom of my purse that have been in there for so long that they are totally crumpled and ripped up. I have to admit I was pushed into it now because of a great brainstorming session with one of my best grad school buddies Erica. We decided to collaborate and do this together to keep each other motivated and inspired. We both share a passion for fashion, cooking, crafting, pop culture and complaining about grad school (hehe a shared hobby that is cathartic for both of us).  We hope to share some of our favorite things with all of you, enjoy!
