Lampshade DIY

Personally I think there is nothing worse then a plain white lampshade. They seem to serve no purpose since the light shines out and even looks reflected through the white surface and I just can't stand it! Now I know this sounds like a weird quirk to be annoyed by, but I have been pondering this issue with my bedside lamp for about a year. In frustration I grabbed a tie dyed scarf and tied it around the lampshade, this worked for awhile, but in the middle of cleaning yesterday I just snapped so here is my new and improved lampshade!

Here is the before lampshade, I bought this one from Target last year for about $15.00
Materials Used:
      • Lampshade
      • Tie-dyed scarf
      • Ribbon
      • Pins
      • Super Glue/Hot Glue (I used super  glue because that was all that I had but I recommend using hot glue, it would be easier and quicker)
So unfortunately I do not have any step by step photos since this was an impulse project, but this is super easy so I'll just give out the directions.

  1. First glue the two ends to the back of the lampshade. I did this so I would be able to make the folds even throughout the lampshade.
  2. After you have glued the ends to the shade you have to pin the tucks in place on the lampshade. I first made small folds, but then I had too much scarf left over at the end. You just have to mess with the proportions until all the folds are pinned evenly.
  3. Once you have the scarf pinned on the lampshade glue the scarf down at the very top of the lampshade, if it's not perfect it will be ok since you will cover this with ribbon.
  4. Once you have the scarf in place you can glue your ribbon over the top. I chose green since it matched my color scheme.
  5. After I glued the ribbon to the outside top of the lampshade I realized I didn't like seeing the seam on the inside. So I glued ribbon over the inside top as well.

And that's it. I am so pleased with this after lampshade, it makes my bedroom feel so much more homey!
